Kenya opts for Submarine cable

Kenya has opted to initiate a parallel project to fast-track the implementation of the East African Sub-marine Cable project. Information and Communications Permanent Secretary Dr.Bitange Ndemo said on Tuesday that the decision follows delays in the implementation of the fibre optic project spearheaded by a Consortium of national telecommunications institutions within the region.

Mineral exploitation could contribute over 12 per cent of the GDP in three years. Environment Minister Prof Kivutha Kibwana says income generated from minerals currently is just over 5 billion shillings at 3 per cent and has the potential to grow four times in three years.
