Nobel laureate slams Kenyan MPs

Kenyan Nobel peace laureate Wangari Maathai has criticised her fellow MPs for increasing their travel allowance.

She told the BBC that the government had been wrong to approve a rise to some $4,500 a month at a time of food shortages and destructive floods.

World Bank Country Representative Collins Bruce has hit out at parliamentarians over the administration of the constituency Development Funds.

Bruce said the compositions of the constituency Development Committees CDC lacked transparency and appointment to such committees was wanting.

Tribunal reverses Nema ruling on Mara project

A tribunal has reversed a decision to permit construction of tourism facilities next to the Leopard breeding grounds in the Masaai Mara game reserve.

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) had allowed constructions around the Leopard Gorge, which conservationists challenged saying the hotel activities would interfere with the breeding patterns of the animals.
