Kenyan professor joins ranks of great scientists

A Kenyan scholar, Professor Calestous Juma, is among 44 scientists who have been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society, the UK National Academy of Science.

The scientists have been recognised for their exceptional contributions to science, engineering and medicine.

Monopolies watchdog rebuffs BP buyout plan

The Government has rejected the take over of British Petroleum (BP) Africa Limited by the Shell petroleum citing infringement of monopolies rules.

On Thursday, Shell Petroleum announced it acquired assets of BP Kenya in a deal that involved the purchase of 65 service stations. The buyout deal was finalised by BP and Shell parent companies in United Kingdom. However, it was subject to approval by the Kenyan regulator — the Monopolies and Price Control department at Treasury. The Government based its ruling on the restrictive trade practices, monopolies and price control Act.
